Lessons of Liberation: Jesus & the Disinherited
A 5 Week Book Club - Learning Lessons from the Mystic & Theologian Howard Thurman
Join us this fall for a 5-week book series, running from November 10 to December 9, 2025, as we journey together through Howard Thurman’s Jesus and the Disinherited. This series is part of our ongoing Lessons of Liberation programming, which last year featured powerful sessions led by Dr. Maia and Dr. McCarty from Boston University School of Theology. This year for 5 weeks we will read and discuss one chapter of Thurman’s groundbreaking text, exploring how his reflections on fear, deception, hate, and love continue to speak to the struggles of today. Local pastors and professors will offer weekly reflections to deepen our understanding and spark meaningful dialogue. Together, we will consider how engaging multiple perspectives and nurturing inner transformation can equip us to take bold, meaningful action for justice and liberation in our communities. This series is open to all, regardless of faith tradition, and we invite you to join us and leave empowered to participate in creating change. Registration is free however you will need to purchase your own copy of Thurman’s book.
All Sessions will run from 6:30 - 8:30 PM EST on Zoom on the following dates:
Week 1/Chapter 1 led by Rev. Dr. Luther Young, Jr., Monday, November 10
Week2/Chapter 2 led by Rev. Rachel Barton, Tuesday, November 18
Week 3/Chapter 3 led by Rev. Joshua Lazard, Tuesday, November 25
Week4/Chapter 4 led by Rev. Andrew Kimble, Monday, December 1
Week5/Chapter 5 led by Rev. Dr. Charlene Zuill, Tuesday, December 9
