2026 Reparations Event

A historic milestone in 182 years of history!

Episcopal City Mission is glad to share that we have moved 20% of our endowment to Reparations, $2,75M distributed to 25 Black, Indigenous and People-of-Color led organizations in Massachusetts.

ECM moved 20% of our endowment to Reparations, $2,75M distributed to 25 Black, Indigenous and People-of-Color led organizations in Massachusetts.

We use the language of reparations intentionally. This is not simply charitable giving or philanthropy.  It is one tangible act of repair in response to harms from which our institution and the larger Church have benefited.

ECM’s historical work identified material, spiritual and institutional harms, including financial resources connected to the transatlantic slave trade and exploitative textile industry, as well as participation in broader church activity that contributed to the displacement of Indigenous communities.

The $2.75 million is a milestone, not a finish line. There will be no reconciliation without repair. And there is no single payment that repairs centuries of harm. This is an important and joyful milestone, but it is not the completion of ECM’s reparations work. Reparations ask us to change relationships, practices, structures and the way institutional power is exercised.

Decades of combined experience underpin every recommendation we issue.
