Centro Comunitario de Trabajadores
With support from Finding Our Way Home, the organization will continue integrating culturally rooted healing, movement, and spiritual practices into its power-building model. This includes martial arts programming for youth and self-defense workshops for women; weekly gatherings that incorporate stretching, humor, and stress reduction; and the continuation of marimba instruction and traditional dance groups that honor Indigenous Maya cultural and spiritual traditions. Healing is also supported through soccer (fútbol) programming and a community-wide tournament, strengthening physical well-being, connection, and collective joy. In parallel, the organization will continue efforts to collaborate with traditional healers and spiritual guides from Guatemala—either in person or virtually—to reconnect community members with ancestral knowledge disrupted by migration and repression, alongside partnerships with healthcare providers to bridge traditional practices and Western medicine.
Grant support will sustain instructors, materials, public events, and community-centered activities that engage staff, board members, and the broader membership. The organization’s hypothesis is that reaffirming cultural identity and spiritual traditions strengthens resilience, dignity, and self-worth—critical resources in a time of heightened attack on immigrant communities. As individuals’ mental, spiritual, and physical well-being deepens, the organization anticipates a ripple effect that strengthens collective participation, leadership, and long-term organizing power.
